Today was supposed to be my due date. Granted, my due dates have ranged from January 19th to the 24th so it may still be another 5 days before I can technically consider myself overdue. As of today, I am still 2 cm dilated and 70% effaced. My doctor says that since I am not in any discomfort and there has been no labor contractions yet, there's no need to worry or try and speed things along. Many women go as far as 2 weeks past their due dates, especially for their first child.
We have scheduled my next weekly appointment for the 26th and if I reach that appointment, she will do an ultrasound to measure the level of my amniotic fluid as well as conduct a non-stress test to monitor the baby's heart rate to detect if the baby is under any stress. Based on these two tests, my doctor will be able to recommend whether we simply need to wait longer or if it is necessary to induce labor.
I'm sure this is all mumbo jumbo to most of you so let me give you the cliff notes version: we need to wait and see.
Meanwhile, I am still working and I'm trying to walk as much as possible. I'm eating lots of spicy foods and trying to do all I can to induce labor but nothing seems to be working! Perhaps this weekend I'll sign up for a prenatal massage--my coworker told me that his wife's water broke immediately after getting a prenatal massage. It's my duty to get this massage and prove whether or not this is truth or legend. Any other ideas to induce labor??
Patience was never a strong point for me.
